SoftLight® Laser Features

The facts: Different patients will have varying results with laser hair removal. There is no best laser to use on all clients, and permanent hair reduction is marketing hype. All lasers require multiple treatments, and hair always grows back. The question is: how much pain and risk will your clients endure for the illusion of permanency? For skin resurfacing, you have another choice a high energy laser, chemicals or dermabrasion or a lower energy approach (microdermabrasion, SoftLight).

Physics, not hype: Regardless of their basis (ruby, alexandrite, diode) all other lasers lack SoftLights process patent, and are dependent on melanin in hair and skin for efficacy. Consequently, they are relatively more effective on dark hair with light skin, and are virtually useless on light hair, or gray hair. They are not recommended for darker skin (Types IV, V and VI), and should not be used on suntanned skin. That excludes about 75% of your potential customers, especially in the sunbelt! Treating darker skinned clients with any non-SoftLight laser is a potential liability for the aesthetician, and painful and risky for the client. Because they heat the melanin in the skin, they need a cooling handpiece or anesthetics to reduce the pain to tolerable levels, but dont reduce the risk of pigmentation changes.

The difference: SoftLight exploits two technologies. First, the longer wavelength Nd: YAG 1064 nm laser light is much less strongly absorbed by melanin than shorter wavelength lasers, so it penetrates more deeply with minimal epidermal reaction and heating. Second, the patented carbon lotion absorbs the most of the laser energy, not your clients skin. When it vaporizes, it removes the hair, or resurfaces the skin, with less pain, heat, blistering, and risk of pigmentation changes. The conclusion: The SoftLight system is the best to use on darker skin. If competitors could use the same technology, they would but they cant because SoftLight is patented. So they claim they are more powerful or reduce hair permanently.

The choice: You really have only two alternatives lasers that heat melanin, or SoftLight that substitutes carbon lotion, and photomechanically reduces hair growth or resurfaces the skin. Choosing SoftLight opens up a huge potential market with darker skin, plus adds tattoo removal as an added benefit.

A new standard in achieving and caring for beautiful skin.

Providing superb results with substantially reduced risk of complication, lasers now play a central role in a wide range of medical and cosmetic uses. And SoftLight is at the forefront of bringing the therapeutic potential of laser light to an array of cosmetic skin procedures. More precise and selective than alternative treatment methods, SoftLight is ideally suited to treating skin without damaging delicate tissues. And SoftLight delivers new levels of comfort, convenience and effectiveness.

SoftLight is safe and effective for all skin colors. SoftLight is the only hair removal process that targets hair follicles, not skin pigment. For this reason, people with very fair or very dark skin may use SoftLight with confidence.

Only SoftLight has little to no risk of side effects. Other laser and flashlamp processes use higher energy levels and risk pigmentation change, scarring and other undesirable side effects.

Only SoftLight uses a lotion applied to the skin for enhanced performance. After tens of thousands of treatments, SoftLights patented process is the most proven technology available.

Frequently asked questions

Lasers are precise instruments that can be adjusted to the exact parameters that will specifically disable the hair follicle. Unlike precision "hair-by-hair" treatments like electrolysis, the laser uses a wide beam that treats many hairs at once. Because of this, large areas like a man's full back, full legs or arms can be completely hair free within a few hours. You will see immediate results that will last far longer than shaving, tweezing, waxing, chemical depilation, or other temporary treatments.

Laser hair removal was pioneered after more than 30 years of laser research by physicians, and has been shown through extensive clinical trials at more than 10 laser U.S. and Canadian laser research centers to provide safe and effective hair removal. The laser parameters were carefully defined by studying the anatomy of the hair follicle and precisely matching the laser light and pulse duration to the follicle size, depth, and location to safely and effectively remove the hair.

Because the laser treats many hairs at a time, facial areas (chin, lip, cheeks, etc.) can be treated in 20 - 30 minutes. Small body areas (underarms, bikini line, etc.) take less than a half hour. Larger body areas (full back, full legs, both arms, etc.) usually take an hour or more, depending upon the size of the area and the density of the hair.

Most laser clients describe the treatment as mildly uncomfortable, but not painful. For sensitive facial and body areas, however, some people do ask for an aesthetic. If you decide you would prefer an aesthetic, We can prescribe a topical aesthetic one for you.

Within several minutes of the treatment, the treated area will be come slightly red and puffy. This reaction subsides, and within a few hours the area returns to normal. Since the laser does not burn or cut the skin in any way, you can return to your normal activities immediately.

The laser works by disabling hairs that are in their active growth cycle at the time of treatment. Since other hairs will enter their growth cycles at different times, additional treatments may be necessary to disable all of the follicles in a given area.

The SoftLight process is gentle, non-invasive and requires no anesthetic. If you are like most individuals who experience SoftLight, you will feel nothing more than a slight warmth or tingling sensation.

Hair is natural to your body and our goal is not to kill the follicle, but to disable it. SoftLight Hair Removal impairs the growth of your hair over time, so that is regrows both slower, finer and less visible. With the current SoftLight technology, it will be necessary to come in for treatments several times a year.

Yes. The SoftLight Hair Removal procedure has already been performed on thousands of people with positive results. The same YAG laser has been used by physicians for over 10 years without any long term adverse effects.

With SoftLight, a low- energy laser targets a carbon-based solution to more effectively deliver its energy directly to the roots of the hair follicle. (See Illustration to right.)

My most pleasant surprise about Laser Hair Removal is that it will remove all or most of the hair with very few treatments. This procedure is painless. The maintenance is easy and doesn't have to be repeated as often as the other procedures I've had in the past. I've had maybe four treatments and most of the re-growth has been eliminated. I am very happy with the results. It really is the best thing I ever spent money on in my life.

The TLC Dermal Laser Clinic's staff were wonderful. They were very understanding of the embarrassment of unwanted hair. I had tried waxing and electrolysis because shaving gave me severe razor rash and lots of ingrown hairs. Thankfully, laser hair removal means minimal pain (some places actually tickled) with very little redness, which went away almost immediately. So far I have had the most problematic areas done (underarms and bikini line) and I am planning to have more areas done soon.
